The island of Thassos (or Thasos) is the 12th largest by area Greek island.
Thassos is also the name of the largest town of the island. Known also as Limenas Thassou (Port of Thassos), is situated at the northern side, opposite the mainland and about 10 km (6 miles) from the port of Keramoti.
Thassos island is known from ancient times for its termae (natural spas), making it a climatic and balneoclimateric resort area.
The economy of the island relies on timber (the island is rich in forests), marble, olive oil and honey. Tourism has also become important since the 1960s, although not to the level of other Greek islands.
