“Roka” restaurant (spelled “Ρόκα” in Greek) is on a back street in Oia and takes a bit of effort to locate, but it’s worth searching out and it is actually only a minute’s walk from the main walk way along the rim of the caldera.
Roka is a warm and inviting place with unpretentious paper tablecloths and napkins. Roka is a cozy, out-of-the-way restaurant that feels like dinning in a big house. Seating is on the balcony or indoors, and the small patio on the backyard has an amazing sea view.
Some of the specialties of Roka’s Modern Greek and Mediterranean cuisine include:
– A variety of meze (Greek starters), salads, onion pies, fried cheese, thin-sliced eggplant with feta and tomato sauce and many others.
– Asparagus with cherry tomatoes, olives, chili and basil.
– Slow cooked octopus in “mavrodaphne” red sweet wine on a bed of smoked white eggplant.
– Greek style risotto with shrimps, marinated olives with tarragon and sundried tomatoes.
Drinks are house wines (the famous local wines of Santorini), high quality bottled wines and soft drinks.
Being a small joint, the service is pretty quick and the staff will make you feel like long-time friends.
