Santorini is famous for a lot of things. One of them is the amazing sunsets. And there is more than one “sunset sites”.
Here is a short list for those who don’t have time to enjoy all:
This village is a few km from Fira. The beauty of this village of white houses, lies in a spectacular location on a cliff, at the edge of the breathtaking
Oia is a palette in shades of colors. The sunset enhances its beauty.
TIP: Be there early (even before 5 pm) to grab a good location … You will not be alone; Oia’s sunset is much more famous than you can imagine …
Skaros Rock at Imerovigli
The ruins of the Venetian castle Skaros are also a good spot for sunset.
(During a 19th-century earthquake the castle was destroyed and today there are only ruins.)
The landscape is incredible. At sunset, the castle looks like a dark fortress illuminated by the red light of the sunset of Santorini.
Near the rock there is also the lovely little Chapel of Theoskepasti, facing the Caldera.
TIP: Hiking enthusiasts will love the route to the castle. It is 10 minutes climbing to the top. Remember to bring water with you.
It is the capital of Santorini and full of life.
One of the best places to watch the sunset is in front of the Orthodox Cathedral.
The Akrotiri lighthouse
This lighthouse has something unique in its kind. It is located at south of the island and it was built in 1892.
Many boat excursions are organised in Santorini.
This is another way to enjoy the sunset from the sea! The tour ends with the Oia sunset in the middle of the sea.
